Submissions

Whether you are an aspiring writer or well-practised medical journalist, North Wing prides itself in publishing a broad selection of pieces from anyone with an opinion.

North Wing currently accepts submissions throughout the year. A non-exhaustive list of article suggestions is made available here. We ask that all submitted articles be previously unpublished, and we will not pay you for an article. By submitting, you are confirming that you are the rightful owner and sole author of any and all material entered.

There are a number of ways to see your work in North Wing:

Submit an article
1000-3000 words. These should aim to make our readers think, not just learn. Be informative, well researched but not balanced. You have to climb the fence, but sitting up there isn’t comfortable.

Write a book review
Fewer than 500 words We will consider reviews for books of any genre, but remember this is a medical student magazine.

Comment
Fewer than 500 words. If you feel something published in North Wing warrants further discussion, please write to us.

Artwork
Feel free to submit your own, original photography with your article (copyright free) or even send us standalone artwork. Please only send artwork for which you have already obtained permission to use for print and digital use.

Please email northwing@sheffield.ac.uk with your submission. You can expect response times of roughly a month.

If you wish to contribute in other ways, we will consider enthusiastic individuals from any background to be part of the editorial committee. Please get in touch at northwing@sheffield.ac.uk.
