In April this year, the Teddy Bear Hospital national conference was held here in Sheffield. Medical students from all over the country attended; and it wasn’t just medical students, we were joined by junior doctors and Orthoptics students from the University of Sheffield, giving a multidisciplinary team feel to the event.
The event began with a talk from the Sheffield Teddy Bear Hospital committee followed by a discussion of how Teddy Bear Hospital is run by other medical schools, providing the perfect opportunity for inspiration and idea swapping.
Other highlights of the day included a Paediatric Basic Life Support workshop ran by the Save a Baby’s Life committee, team building exercises and an aspiring talk from a peadiatric intensive care consultant.
The raffle running during the day raised over £25 for Isabelle’s appeal, a local Sheffield based charity who grant wishes for children suffering with cancer. This is added to the total raised by the Teddy Bear Hospital fundraising committee this year of over £300.
Overall a great conference, perfect for aspiring pediatricians and Teddy Bear Hospital fans alike.
